The California winery, Murphy-Goode, is looking for a social media director and its hiring practices for the position are far from ordinary.

A few things to note: The position is temporary. The contract only lasts 6 months, but MG will pay the new hire $10K a month. They will even put him/her up in a deluxe private residence in the Wine Country. Not bad, huh?

So, what will this person be doing, besides sipping syrah? In their own words…

We at the Murphy-Goode Winery got to thinking about the new age of communications and we figured it was a pretty good thing. So to get going, we’re looking for someone (maybe you) who really knows how to use Web 2.0 and Facebook and blogs and social media and YouTube and all sorts of good stuff like that — to tell the world about our wines and the place where we live: the Sonoma County Wine Country. In exchange, we’re offering you a “Really Goode Job”!

What I found so interesting is how they’re going about finding this person. They’re taking video applications and showcasing them on their website: www.areallygoodejob.com. Take a look! You can vote for your favorite(s).

I found about this through Facebook when a college friend of mine shared her video entry. While I immediately voted for her, it doesn’t look like she made the Top 50. There are some really great candidates. I look forward to finding out who wins the job and then seeing what they do with it!

This search for social media director, in and of itself, has already helped boost the winery’s visibility. I hadn’t heard of Murphy-Goode!
