I didn't really notice any significant changes to even write about. I still use Yahoo, but lately I have been thinking of jumping ship. They are going to need to do a lot more than have a fancy portal page.

Could never got the Google thing other than search. I'm using Bing more for search because Google search results are increasingly irrelevant. I tried the email. Never understood the fuss. Outlook plus Xobni is fantastic.Google Docs are crap. Give me Office, Open Office any day. I use Netvibes as my home page /portal. Indispensable.

I think the moment Yahoo jumped the shark was when they decided to let Yahoo Profiles rot. The search was terrible, it looked terrible, and was full of profile-spam. Had Yahoo done something cool in this space they could play in the same space with MySpace, Facebook, & Twitter. But Yahoo would have been able to integrate this functionality with search, games, pipes, buzz, etc...

Yahoo is doing some cool things now, but unless you are a developer or a techno-geek you would never notice. To your "average Joe" Yahoo feels like AOL.

I agree. Rebrand. Streamline.

I don't care how great the service is, not touching it. I've spent too many hours removing Yahoo toolbars from people's PC's after it stealth installed itself. The company does stupid, dishonest things that piss me off; why would I ever use their products?

One big thing that irks me about Yahoo are their persistent attempts to prevent you from using autocomplete in your browser for signing in. Nobody is going to manually type in a %$#@& password just to check the weather and headlines. My theory is that this policy constitutes a large part of their declining fortunes.

If you really want to see a yahoo trainwreck in progress, read their profile blog. The poor representative there has to continually put a happy face on changes to the yahoo service that are universally detested by the users:

I use Yahoo for pretty much everything, and I hate the new interface. It has very little on it that I am interested in, and they took away the things I use the most. I had to do a Yahoo search to find Yahoo Maps and Yahoo Yellow Pages! Also, it's very difficult to change back to the old layout if you don't like it - you have to delete all cookies and offline content for the old page to come back, there's nothing on the Yahoo page to give you the choice.

I tried the Yahoo! page before reading your article and came away with the exact same impression. First of all I couldn't figure out what was new. Then noticed that I could add my favorite sites and view them all at once. Cool I thought. That is a nice feature. My next thought was, now how do I get ride of the rest of whats on the page. It's to busy, loud, and not at all what I am interested in. Once I realized I could not change the main page at all...I was done. I want somebody to be a google killer. Unfortunately Yahoo! is more like a google gnat.
