I do believe that within most crisis situations lie opportunities — for positive change, for lessons learned, for improvements and innovations, etc.  As the recession and its fall-out, which has hit East Tennessee particularly hard this past week or so, continue to pound us and it feels more each day like we are dealing with one crisis after another, we might want to take to heart the meaning of the Chinese language symbol for crisis.

It actually is made up of two symbols — one meaning opportunity and the other meaning danger.  In a sense, the Chinese symbols for crisis can mean “opportunity in a time of danger”.  It may be good to internalize this meaning and look for any silver linings as we slug through these hard times.
