We all know that life is no picnic.

But one of my healthcare clients is forgoing their usual summer foodfest to make a family’s life better, and I just want to brag on them.

Usually this time of year, lots of flyers are going around at East Tennessee Medical Group (ETMG) in Maryville about their summer picnic. But they won’t be gathering this year.

Instead, more than 50 ETMG employees are working weekends to build a Habitat for Humanity house for the Roach family of Maryville. Rather than hold their 2008 annual holiday/Christmas party and their 2009 annual summer picnic, the ETMG folks gave a cash donation to Blount Habitat for Humanity, and made a commitment to build the home.

It’s been hot these last few weekends, yet the employees have been out there, swinging hammers and raising walls.

It’s admirable that they commemorate their 15th anniversary as a large, multi-specialty physician group in this manner; instead of giving  parties to “celebrate themselves,” they chose to make a local family’s life better. Way to go, guys!
