Last night was an amazing night in Knox County, Tennessee.

After a lot of controversy in local county government, it was finally election time. And the people of Knox County spoke…loudly and clearly. They registered and voted in record numbers. They got mad, which is bad, and went to the polls, which is good.

Virtually all those who the voters considered “politics as usual” got beat. Heck, they didn’t just get beat, they got hammered. Name recognition was pretty much a negative.

Some people who are friends of mine got beat, and some people who are friends of mine won, too. But that’s not really important. What’s important is this: the people have the power. Elections make a difference.

It was a historic day for Knox County. Now in reality its sad that it takes a controversy for people to get engaged. In some countries, people stand in line for hours or days for the right to vote. We make it easy for people to vote and most times they still don’t bother.

But yesterday they did. And by doing so they have changed the political landscape of Knox County for years to come.
