At a recent marketing industry conference, the following tips were given for media-related professionals in the “digital age”:
1. Consumers come first. Study the demographics of your targeted audiences and create messages that reflect their interests and goals.
2. Content drives everything. Absolutely everything we do as media professionals starts with the need to convey relevant content.
3. Creativity is the name of the game. You have to have it in order to break through the clutter and make your messages stand out.
4. Commit to change. The status quo isn’t a viable strategy. Society has been radically altered since the dawn of the digital age, and to survive in it, you cannot adhere to the old rules.
The take-aways are: (1) if you are afraid to change and embrace new ways of communicating, you are “stuck in neutral”, and (2) content is the most critical driver of messages, branding strategies and ultimately, sales.
